Moisturize, Condition, Protect: How to Tackle Frizz Successfully

Black ms. frizzle with blizzard pet on shoulder wearing planet earth earrings

Did you know that frizz occurs when your hair appears unruly, disheveled, and lacks sleekness, often looking dry or rough? It happens when the outer layer of the hair shaft, known as the cuticle, becomes raised, allowing moisture from the surrounding environment to penetrate the hair shaft. This leads to the individual strands swelling and becoming rough, resulting in a frizzy texture. Girl, what is the reason! I know you've seen those Pantene Pro-V commercials where sis has hair that the light is bouncing off of ... well ma'am, that can be you but instead you want to drive the magic school bus! Please get off the school bus, give Ms. Frizzle back her adventures, and come sit in this classroom for a quick moment. Now that I have your attention, say it with me, "Fizz is not my portion!" I hope you said that with some conviction.

Fortunately for you, there are some simple ways you can tackle frizz successfully:

  1. Moisturizing - sealing your hair cuticle to keep it smooth and prevent excess moisture from entering the hair shaft with sealing oils is vital to maintain that moisture we've worked so hard to attain. This in turn seals and closes the cuticle producing that shine and eliminating frizz.

  2. Deep Conditioning - regular deep conditioning not only addresses moisture on a foundational level but it also provides your scalp & hair with essential vitamins and nutrients, combatting frizz before it has the chance to start.

  3. Avoid Over-washing - Washing your hair too frequently can strip your strands of their natural oils, leading to increased frizz. This is why you want to make sure that you have a regular routine for your hair and scalp maintenance. Set a day aside weekly, bi-weekly, or even monthly to wash, deep condition, exfoliate your scalp, detangle, and moisturize to avoid frizz creeping back into the picture. Routine is good for hair health and promotes growth more efficiently.

  4. Protect Your Hair While Sleeping - Now girl, we have already addressed a few entries back how cotton pillowcases can create friction and contribute to frizz. Unless you have been under a rock or ignoring my posts, you already know you should be using a satin or silk pillowcase to protect those ends and retain moisture, or you can protect your hair with a silk scarf or bonnet while you sleep. Me myself, I'm a bonnet girl, but whatever works best for you, do it!

Some other factors to keep in mind: while frizz may seem harmless, it's more than just a pesky annoyance. It often signals underlying issues with our hair health. Healthy hair is characterized by its shine, vibrancy, and resilience. But when frizz enters the picture, it's often accompanied by split ends, breakage, and dryness, indicating that our hair may be lacking essential nutrients. You want to make sure that you are paying attention to these signs, but better yet, you want to make sure that you are using products that address Ms. Frizzle before she has a chance to take your strands on an adventure.

We feel good when our hair is healthy and strong, even better when others notice. Want to have healthy resilient noticeable hair, you can easily attain that status, but first start by reclaiming control over your crown today. I would be remiss if I failed to inform you that for a limited time, enjoy special discounts on our deep conditioning treatments, because when your hair thrives, so do you!
